A few weeks in Cozumel and I’m finally starting to explore the island. My world here has consisted of my bedroom, the dive shop, the grocery store, and the ocean. Which is not a bad setup at all, and I’ve got everything I need, but it’s been nice to see some new places and try some new things, and make friends along the way! That’s what this post is all about.
My first ‘new’ place was a taco truck that my roommates, Brent and Lily, often visit for lunch.

taco truck!
What I didn’t expect were the family of wild pigs that live next door, say hi!

This post involves a lot of food, which is a great way to make friends. On our next mini-adventure, my instructor, Will and his wife, Michelle, introduced us to Casa Mission, a restaurant and tequila-ry(?) that’s not a word, but I’m trying to say that they also sell tequila. Which was the highlight of the night cause after dinner we did tequila tasting! We got to try a bunch of flavored tequila, some were better than others. I am not a fan of strawberry tequila, but almond flavored ain’t bad.

Cheers!

Bottoms up!
The next day, since the weather was gorgeous and we all had the day off, Will and Michelle took us on a little tour around the island. We got to see the other side, and enjoy picture-esque sandy beaches and the most beautiful blue water I’ve ever seen. I could’ve stayed there all day to watch the waves.

I’m drooling. This can’t be real, right?

Everyone is enjoying the sun and the sand.
We made a couple of stops along the coast jump out and see what there was to explore along the way. There were sandy beaches, rocky outcroppings to scramble over and calm inlets perfect for relaxing.

A perfect day!
But the fun doesn’t stop there. I decided to make a dinner for everyone, so we could get together, and eat some good food. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working and learning side-by-side with these guys, and they’ve all helped me accomplish this goal of getting my divemaster certification. So for anyone in the group reading this, Lily, Anthony, Will, Brent, Clare, Phil, thank you.

Good food and good company is the ultimate combination, and I got both in spades over the last few weeks. What more could I ask for?
Thanks for reading, stay tuned for part 2!
